Parking
Parking at three of the four road crossing points is Pay and Display, those supporting BG attempts are not exempt from those charges. As the contender it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that your supporters pay these fees, provide them with the means to do so if necessary. Some payment is by parking apps - find out which is in use at any given location beforehand and download it.
A full list of car parks along with current charges may be found here
-
Threlkeld: The car park at the side of the A66 belongs to the village who have installed payment meters: £1 for one hour, £2 for two hours. Can pay by phone/app. The money from this is used to maintain village facilities.
-
Dunmail Raise: The parking here is on the verges of the A591 which is dual carriageway at this point. Take care and make sure that you park completely off the road.
-
Wasdale: The car park at Lakehead belongs to the National Trust and payment (£6.50 for two hours) is required - cash only as there’s limited phone signal. The car park is shut overnight - hours vary throughout the year.
Wasdale is perhaps the most sensitive site to numbers and fills up very early in the morning. Ideally arrange for only one support vehicle to travel round to this point. Another reason to keep your support numbers down.
-
Honister: There are two car parks - one belongs to the slate mines, the other belongs to the National Trust. The slate mine car park is £5/day for those not visiting the mine. The NT car park is £5.50 for up to two hours.
Please be considerate to other users of the car parks and to any staff or volunteers present.
IF WE GET COMPLAINTS THEN UNLESS SOMEONE ADMITS TO THEIR SUPPORT CAUSING THE PROBLEM WE WILL NOT RATIFY ANY ROUND COMPLETED THAT WEEKEND
